42.

The answer to Life, the Universe and Everything .

Well, everything except as the answer to the question: “How long should we be able to detain suspected terrorists without charge.”

An answer that, surprisingly, even Mike Ion understands is the wrong one, saying “[s]ome say such measures are a necessary evil but I cannot help feeling that they are a step too far”.

It is a huge step too far. It’s not as if there is even any calls from the professionals for this extension – and they haven’t even used the current 28 day limit yet! So why waste time trying to extend it? It’s only current possible use is to undermine our freedoms.
