This is great! I think we should send this to all the members of Congress, Senate, and the President in the United States. We are heading that way, too! I’m reading the book currently, and have found many similarities in this current administration in just the first 6 weeks of the Obama presidency!
The reaction that the general masses have to Big Brother is stunningly like the reaction of crowds to Barack Obama during the 2008 election. People were crying. People were passing out. They thought he was the Savior and Messiah, just like the woman with the “sandy hair” in Orwell’s story. In this story, everyone works for the government. There is no commerce, except for a few fringe shops run by the low-lifes who are not part of the Party. In his first act as president, Obama had a bill passed that was over 1000 pages. He didn’t give the Republicans any time to read it, but just asked that they sign on to it. He and his staff lovingly called this the “Stimulus” bill because it was to stimulate the economy. In this bill were hundreds of programs that were tucked away, such as $900 B for a program called ACORN. This is a group of community organizers that fight for the rights of individuals to vote, usually. Barack was now commissioning them to lead thought in their communities so that they can go door to door with their campaigning of whatever mission the White House should send them on. This is so similar to the “Thought Police” in 1984, who made sure that no one went against Big Brother, or uttered one thought against what the party stood for.
Another similarity is the “Ministry of Truth” that Winston, the lead character in the story, works for. His job was to take items from newsprint or news stories that went out days, weeks, months or years before, and change them to match what really happened. If the news story in January said “Chocolate will not be reduced this year”, but then later in the year, chocolate is reduced, he would go back to the news story to make it read, “Chocolate may be reduced this year around 15%”. This is similar to “Obama Speak” or “newspeak”, as the book would call it. Obama Speak is that one day, he will say he is against any kind of Fairness Doctrine, or control of the radio or airwaves. The next day, he will say that he doesn’t have any comment on it. Or, he says that he will be for our military during the campaign, and not two months later, cuts the military funding to shreds. During the campaign, and during his inauguration, he cut President Bush to shreds because of the war on terror, saying that the army failed in Iraq. Later, in January 2009, he had to acknowledge that actually, the surge of army in Iraq had succeeded. They stopped using the term “war on terror” altogether, as if September 11, 2001 (the crashing of the planes into the Twin Towers in New York, and into the Pentagon in Washington DC, by Islamic terrorists) did not happen. Either it did not happen, and there was never a war on terror, or it did happen, we were successful, and we won, so there no longer a need for a war on terror. Barack didn’t mention either. Instead of referring to the military as heroes who were coming back in honor, he referred to them as victims that needed to be helped after their ordeal (in which they had successfully liberated Iraq and had given the Iraquee people successful ways to be a democratic society). Barack would not acknowledge this truth. To acknowledge this meant that President Bush was actually successful, which is something that he did not want the American people to know. They must not know this! This is exactly the kind of news that Big Brother would be very successful in changing, and his followers – 1/3 of the world, would go along with it.
It is happening. What this stimulus bill has created is like the beginnings of the premise of 1984. It is like the Democratic Party used the book not as a warning, but an instruction manual!
Obama plans on meeting with Prime Minister of Britain to talk about “Global New Deal”, creating a government of alliances. We’re heading in the direction of relying more and more on our government to live and tell us how to live.
Another appointee to the Obama staff was found to have evaded taxes. It hasn’t just been one or two that have been caught in this predicament – it’s ALL of them. It’s part of the “do as I say, not as I do” attitude. In “1984”, there are different foods that are available to members of the Party and the Inner Party. Inner Party members get choice food, while others are forced to have “Victory” products. Do as I say, not as I do.
Part of Obama’s budget plan takes away our tax incentive to donate to charities. In return, he promises to have charities that our taxes are going to go to. In other words, we don’t get a choice to give to our church or to a fine arts group. We are to give our money over in taxes for the Obama administration to distribute. This Obama administration thinks that they are much more smarter than the lowly little people. We couldn’t possibly decide what groups are worthy of giving to. Oh, and since Conservatives give 90% more of their income to charities than Liberals, how do they get off telling us what groups are worthy of donation? They don’t understand the practice of giving!
Children in “1984” are described as “Horrible”. They are all part of a government party group called the spies. Children are taught in schools early to report their parents if they say anything against the party. They are honored as heroes for reporting their parents. Obama just put as part of his budget a national preschool! The earlier that the government can get hold of a child’s mind, the earlier the brainwashing can start!
Here in the US, we have enjoyed freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom to create, which grows businesses and the economy. It is slipping away quickly in order to create the BIG GOVERNMENT that they want!
