Eight for 2008 Redux
This time last year, I wrote a post entitled “eight wishes for 2008“. Let’s see how I did…
1. To get a permanent job.
I achieved this in April.
2. For the Conservatives to consistently poll above 45%.
Unfortunately a goal not quite reached. But they still polled consistently above 40% throughout the year. So I’ll give this one a half.
3. For Lib Dems to stop lying with their bar charts.
This was never going to happen.
4. To pass my driving test.
Yup, I achieved this one as well.
5. For the EU Constitution “Reform Treaty” to be voted down in at least one country.
Thanks to Ireland, this one happened,
6. For Labour to lose a “safe seat” in a by-election.
This happened not only once, but twice.
7. For the ID card scheme to be dumped.
Not quite, but public opinion is certainly going against it.
8. For England to get its own Parliament.
This was never going to go happen in just one year. It will take the best part of a decade, most likely.
So that’s 4½ out of 8. Not too bad, since all of the ones I had any direct influence over were achieved.

[...] year I made eight wishes for 2008, and this year I’m msking nine for 2009. These aren’t predictions or resolutions, just [...]
