No, markets aren’t evil

There is one very simple reason why markets aren’t evil.

Because both sides have consented to the transaction.

No, it may not be “fair” in outcome, but it definitely is fair in opportunity. Both sides have a choice in every transaction – to buy or not to buy, to sell or not to sell. One side is always going to “lose out” in some way, that is inevitable. The point is that they had the choice over the transaction.

Also, we have to consider the alternative – the lack of a market. This isn’t “fair” either. Someone has to make decisions, and someone always comes off worse in some way. One person gets something an another doesn’t. What mesk this evil is that the opportunity for the inidivual to make thier choice and take their risk is taken away from them. Someone else decides whether they win or lose. This is obviously even less fair.

So no, market’s aren’t evil. They allow people to make their own choices. They may make the wrong ones, but that’s life. That is fair.
