The State of Labour’s Online Propaganda

by Chris | 24 Mar 2009 | No Comments

header labour toolsI’ve noticed a theme with Labour online propaganda. It is always long, over-complicated, too large to embed in websites, and frankly boring.

Just look at this list of “Tools for your website” on the Labour website. Pretty much all of them are too large for use on any blog – they need to either be linked to or put on their own page – which simply isn’t going to happen, or at least won’t achieve any real kind of exposure.

As proof of this, how many of the propaganda widgets have you heard of prior to today? As a case in point, I had only come across the “economic homework” one. And if I haven’t even come across them, how many people actually have? Very few indeed.

Although the Conservatives have fewer widgets than Labour and no central repository like them, the widgets they create actually can be used – see, for example, the “My share of the national debt” widget which is actually small enough to fit in to my header.

Labour need to learn that if they want to get impact with their widgets, they must either make them blog-friendly or just stop wasting their time.
