Tories should thank the Speaker for “phony” rebuke
The story of today’s PMQs has been David Cameron calling Gordon Brown “a complete phony” – and then getting rebuked by the Speaker. What this means is that the video is getting played and referred to across the media.
A great amount of publicity for a question that would otherwise just have slipped under the news radar! Everyone who watches or reads the news will hear David Cameron call Brown a phony, and most will agree with it. Only those die-hard Labourites would not.
And all thanks to the Speaker.
It also gives Tory bloggers a great chance to point out that “phony” wasn’t considered unparliamentary language by this very same Speaker at PMQs on 10 October 2007. Can we have some consistency please?
