Platforming the BNP has been proven the right way to go
Giving the BNP a seat on the Question Time panel was always considered risky – even by supporters of it. We want to shine a light on the BNP and their policies, to make them unelectable. There was always a chance that Nick Griffin would perform well and the whole spectacle would have been a massive success for him.
That did not happen.
Griffin bombed. He stuttered, was incoherent, and failed to respond to the questions. He was unable to deal with the criticism of the panel and some well-made arguments from all of them – especially Sayeeda Warsi, who I was not sure would be able to do the job. But she did brilliantly.
Question Time last night shone a bright, bright light on the BNP. Despite Griffin’s attempts to describe himself as the creator of “New BNP”, supposedly non-racist, he was shown up by his own comments.
- He was unable to explain his remark that compared those who believe the Holocaust happened (ie. all of us) with those who believed that the Earth was flat
- He praised a Ku Klax Klan lader for being “almost totally non-violent”
- Stated that Islam was a “wicked and vicious faith”
- And to claim that the “indigenous people of Britain” (whoever the hell they are – we’re all immigrants and racial mongrels!) are the victims of a silent genocide.
The programme proved that the UAF fascists who tried to prevent Griffin from appearing on the show to be a bunch of morons. Had they succeeded, the BNP would be in a massively stronger position today than they had yesterday. But as it happened – and I always believed it would – the BNP have shown themselves up and faced the real public, rather than those who choose to turn up to their events.
The BNP have been exposed. Hopefully now they will lose public support and be removed from the political landscape once and for all.

Well I am sorry but I do not agree with you. What I saw was a vindictive bunch of bullies that had no intention of ‘platforming the BNP’.
Asthe average English person dislikes people ganging up on others, they are already expressing sympathy with Griffin and I predict that the popularity of the BNP will rise.
Before you can show up a policy – you have to debate it, and not one of the other so called politicians had any intention of engaging in a debate. It was a set up, it was despicable and it was enourmously counter productive.
In my neck of the woods the comments go more like “if they spent so much time trying to shut him up, he must have summat to say they don’t want us to hear.” – they didn’t see a badly performing individual they saw someone being savaged by a load of ‘toffs’
I think you saw what you so badly wanted to see, but in this instance I fear you have got it wrong.
The people voting for the BNP are very well aware of what they are like. They feel as if there is no one else to vote for. And they are right of course. Until the mainstream parties start to look after working class people (of any colour or belief) that gap will be filled by militant Islam or the BNP. Unfortunately all the mainstream politicians on Question Time refused to acknowledge that their policies and outlook contributed in any way to the recent rise of the BNP. Time to wise up.
I think you are out of touch. I speak with many people of different views. They thought that the show was a show-trial. Nick Griffin, MEP, was bullied and jeered. Is that what passes for debate in our country. Why on earth is David Cameron supporting people who demonstrate against human rights like the right to freedom of expression? How would he like it if I came with friends and treated him like Griffin is treated. I have eggs in my fridge too you know!
