About
First things first: All opinions expressed on this blog are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of any or all groups to which I belong.
Now that that’s out of the way…
The Blue Idea is a Conservative-supporting blog written by Chris Hawes, a Conservative activist in Watford. I first started blogging in June 2006 under the pseudonym “The ThunderDragon” because it sounded pretty cool at the time and I wasn’t sure whether or not I wanted to use my actual name.
I now feel that I have outgrown that particular name, hence the starting of this blog.
Political opinion
As this is a political blog, I suppose that I better explain my general political philosophy. So, let’s start with the obvious: I am a member of the Conservative Party, and fully support the modernising agenda that is currently under way within the party. I am also the Conservative candidate for the local council ward of Leavesden in Three Rivers District Council. In the 2008 local elections, I increased my vote share from 17.6 to 21.6% of the votes, in a 2009 by-election I increase by share by another 5%. But this is a personal, not campaign, blog.
I am a libertarian. I think that people are best served when they make their own choices. As such, I oppose the creep towards the Nanny State and Big Brother society. I believe in reducing taxes where it is possible to do so without undue harm to basic state services, and reducing tax in a manner which benefits those who need it most.
Beyond that, well, you can just read my posts.
Personal
I am male, 24, and live and work in Watford. In my spare time I am a Scout Leader and an amateur web designer (using WordPress), designing the website for my Scout Group and Richard Harrington, Conservative candidate for Watford.
