David Cameron today delivered a barnstorming note-less speech to the Conservative Spring Conference in Brighton. He made it clear that he desires to become Prime Minister for the best of the country:

Now we’ve got a maximum of 70 days between now and the general election that we must win. And you know what, this isn’t an election that it would be quite nice to win, because we’ve got some quite good policies, or quite good to win, because some of these people would make quite good ministers. It is an …

When we finally get to vote in this year’s general election, there is one question that must be asked and answered: who do you want to be Prime Minister, David Cameron or Gordon Brown?
If you want David Cameron, vote Conservative. A vote for any other party – whether they be Labour, Liberal Democrat, Green, UKIP, or anyone else – is a vote for Gordon Brown.
Why? Because if the Conservatives do not get a majority in the House of Commons, Brown can remain as PM:

The convention is that the prime minister …

Gordon Brown and David Cameron are the two people between whom the British public will choose to be Prime Minister for the next four to five years. Yet a third of students do not know who are they are.
That a number of students do not know who they are is unsurprising; that so many do not is quite shocking. Whilst students may not yet be paying much in the way of taxes and thus realise how important politics is, I would have thought that considering all the political argy-bargy over …

Peter Mandelson says that David Cameron is like Terry Wogan. In certain respects, he’s right. Both Terry and David are trust by and beloved of the nation, and can move from light-hearted to serious content and be seen as credible in both.
What could we compare Gordon Brown to? How about the Cheshire Cat, who shares Brown’s rictus grin and often vanishes…

Finally the parties have done more than agree merely in principle to hold leader’s debates, but a real deal has been reached. This is an idea that first emerged back in July and was picked up by Sky in September with a campaign and petition – before stalling in political manoevurings between the parties a month later.
We will at last get our chance to see a proper debate between the three people vying to be Prime Minister (or king-maker in the case of Clegg). At a time when opinion of …

Starting in the new year, the Conservatives are to set out a draft manifesto with a policy-a-day blitz to show the country that they have a substantial programme of policies in order to rescue us from the results of twelve years of incompetent Labour government. And more than that, the message will be a brighter one.
This is what we want to see. Policies that do more than give us a doom-and-gloom outlook, that promise more than pain for a little gain. But a plan that looks forward, to the light …

Why does the Daily Mirror think that it is such an issue that David Cameron has been “caught” drinking a glass of champagne at what is, after all, a party? Their headline and story try desperately to contrast Cameron drinking a glass of £140-a-bottle champagne with “millions fac[ing] a thirsty future with frozen pay, job and pension cuts.”
Of course they also get a rent-a-quote Union boss to say:

It is sickening. This is the real face of the Tories. Champagne for Cameron and his crew, as though the recession never happened.

Ignoring …

David Cameron has, correctly, said that he will not be using the Thatcherite solutions should he get into Downing Street. The solutions Margaret Thatcher used in the 1980s will not work now. The world has moved on.

This is a far more serious problem than we faced in the 1980s. This is something we need to do with the public sector, not to the public sector. This is very important: this is not some 1980s-style approach about cutting public spending.

It has to be understood that 2009 is different to 1979, and …
