Election, Gordon Brown, Labour Party »
Gordon Brown is due to unveil Labour’s general election slogan over the weekend – but not their manifesto, which will be launched at a “later date”.
So Labour are going to launch their slogan but not their manifesto? Way to take politics to the lowest common denominator!
And the fact that it is being trailed so far ahead of time gives people plenty of time to create their own versions. But I can’t be bothered to do that.

… they feel the need say I will go on and on (and on):
GORDON BROWN is making secret plans to stay on as Labour leader after the general election even if his party is defeated.
The prime minister has told close colleagues that he will refuse to quit unless the Conservatives win a significant majority…
Brown has told colleagues he believes it makes little sense for the Labour party to have a change of leadership if the political landscape is so uncertain. (The Times)
Prime Ministers – or any party leaders – do …

There is little that provides greater evidence that a government is sinking than when its own MPs refuse to get on board. According to a CCHQ press release published by Tory Bear, there have been twelve vacant Parliamentary Private Secretary positions since June. These used to be desirable (unpaid) positions for MPs wanting to work their way up into government – but not right now.
It seems that no-one wants to fill the PPS positions for these ministers:
Lord Drayson, Minister of State for Science and Innovation
Dawn Primarolo, Minister of State for …
Gordon Brown, Labour Party, Tony Blair »
The man who Gordon Brown forced out of Number 10 and then domestic politics altogether is now going to be invited back to play a “key role” in the general election campaign this year.
And that man is Tony Blair .
Such was the animosity between the two of them, Brown really must have realised the level of electoral peril he is in. And he must be petrified. For no other reason could he be thinkiing of bringing Blair back in.
Yes, Blair managed to win three general elections. But he was in …
Labour Party, Money, The Economy »
We all know that Labour have drowned us in debt. The Conservatives made this point earlier in the year. And after the Pre-Budget Report last year (twice).
And now they have beamed it onto the Battersea Power Station for all to see:
Yes, it really does say £847,944,109,826. Up from £665,636,042,088 last year. An increase of £182,308,067,738 in just one year (assuming I’ve got my sums right…)!
And it’s going up by £5,500 every second!
Labour Party, Peter Mandelson »
Iain Dale might have been a touch premature in deeming Peter Mandelson as the top left winger in Britain.
may be extremely powerful in government, with the most junior ministers and the longest political title known to man (Baron Mandelson, of Foy in the County of Herefordshire and of Hartlepool in the County of Durham, First Secretary of State, Lord President of the Council, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills), but he still isn’t important enough to be known by security guards at Labour’s own conference:
Business Secretary Lord Mandelson …

Baroness Scotland is not only the government’s top legal adviser, and so somene who should know the law, but also the veyr minister who pushed through the law of which she has fallen foul. Were just one of these true, her situation could be salvagable with a grovelling apology and some form of public penance.
But not in her situation.
What this case has already done is effectively reduced the maximum fine for this offence from £10,000 to £5,000 – how can the courts impose a larger fine on someone else who …
Labour Party, Money »
“Labour investment vs Tory cuts” has been the mantra pushed by the government for weeks now. They are trying to suggest that the Conservatives will cut public services and that Labour will “invest” in it – by which they meant spend lots and lots of taxpayers money in a futile attempt make any sort of improvements – and to keep money coming in from the trade unions, of course.
Now, however, Labour has changed it tune. Brown is to actually use the word “cuts” in a speech, and Mandelson has been …
Gordon Brown, Labour Party »
How many coups/attempted coups/suspected attempted coups/false starts of coups does Brown have to face before either
a) he goes; or
b) the Labour Party stop trying to force him out?
Eric Joyce MP, parliamentary aide to Defence secretary Bob Ainsworth resigned – due to the mismanagement of the armed forces in Afghanistan. And is, obviously, seen as the start of yet another potential attempt to remove Brown from his position as leader. Whether it is or not. But perception is in many ways more important than the truth.
However, whether or not they want …
Labour Party, NHS, Polls »
It seems that Labour simply can’t improve their position in polls, no matter what they do. Even when they try to turn the conversation to a topic on which they should be strong on if they are on any topic, they lose.
Even though they had a good run with their Twitter tag, that only really had any impact with the already politically aware and pretty much already-decided. But with the general public, it just gave the Tories an free opportunity – and they took advantage of that, and managed to …
