Baroness Scotland is not only the government’s top legal adviser, and so somene who should know the law, but also the veyr minister who pushed through the law of which she has fallen foul. Were just one of these true, her situation could be salvagable with a grovelling apology and some form of public penance.
But not in her situation.
What this case has already done is effectively reduced the maximum fine for this offence from £10,000 to £5,000 – how can the courts impose a larger fine on someone else who …

The Police are asking people to provide a DNA sample in order to rule them out of an investigation into a rape and murder case.
I would be surprised if many people would be willing to give their DNA to the police, despite the seriousness of the crime. Simply because of the DNA database and the lack of any requirement for DNA of innocent people to be removed.
If I was asked to give my DNA to the police on a voluntary basis, I would refuse. They do not have the right …

Despite the DNA database storing of thousands of samples being declared illegal, the government intends to carry on storing them for years. Six years as standard, rising to 12 years if taken in connection with a serious violent or sexual offence.
But these people are innocent! They have either been cleared by a jury or not even charged with a crime. So why should their DNA be kept on a database for criminals?
There is an “official estimate” that
4,500 fewer offences [will be] detected on average each year – rising to 26,000 …

This is an illustration of why I no longer trust the police. Here a man is seen being attacked for absoutely no reason, with no apparant provocation.
In fact, he was attacked whilst walking away from police with his hands in his pockets. At best, this was unnecessary, at worst manslaughter since this man later collapsed and died.
And the police also lied, originally stating that they had tried to help him, but the crowd had not allowed them to. The video shows a very different story.
Alone, this would not cause me …

The Tories have announced a new policy on law and order – grounding young offenders. The plan is to allow the police to apply for court orders to confine youths to their homes for up to a month, except for school.
However, I see problems with this. No mention has been made of organised extra-curricular activites that these youths may attend. For example, the youth organisation with which I am involved – Scouting. That is beneficial for all young people that attend it, even those who may be behaving anti-socially or …

Police Community Support Officers really are useless. Not only do they do such a little amount of actual crime detection as to make them pointless, they don’t even give out many fixed penalty notices.
Worse than that, PCSOs also account for a hugely large number of gross misconduct cases – one half of all cases, despite making up only a fifth of the workforce.
Why on earth do we have PCSOs? They have no powers, and don’t control crime, or even obey the law themselves. They are policing on the cheap. Let’s …

Labour MP and Health Minister Ann Keen is being taken to court by one of her constituents for “laziness”.
John Taylor, 84, claims he wrote more than 100 letters to his MP asking her to help him get compensation for his wrongful conviction of stealing £17 in 1962 – a conviction which saw him serve three years in prison. The conviction came after three men brought a stolen safe to the flat where he was sleeping, but it was quashed in 1998.
Mr Taylor, who was badly wounded while fighting in Holland …

Some months ago, I spoke about the problem of NIMBYism, and encouraged you all to sign a government “e-petition”.
Since then, Downing street have replied, with a predictable answer that basically said “tough”.
Also since then – recently as it happens – news has broken of another attack on a race circuit. By something worse than a NIMBY. A NIMBY with a grudge.
Croft circuit near Darlington is under serious threat after a judge ruled it should pay a local resident £150,000 in compensation for noise nuisance and a subsequent apppeal won’t be …

The worst thing about this is that not being insured incurs a £100 fine followed by a maximum of £1,000 – and only if the case if taken to court. Plus the threat of having their car seized or clamped.
Are they serious?! A maximum of £1,000?! That hardly acts as a deterrent – my insurance on a 1.2 T-reg Corsa was nearly £800, so even if I chose not to insure my car and then they actually managed to catch me out, it could cost me a maximum of £200 …

Plastic Policemen, PCSOs, have now been proven to be pointless. They detect less than one crime every four years, and give out less than 1.5 fixed penalty notices each year.
What the hell are paying these people for? Absolutely bugger all it seems. They can’t even actually do anything useful like arrest someone. So why has their number doubled over the past two years to nearly 16,000 and the number of real police has fallen by nearly 1,500?
What exactly do PCSOs do and why can’t we just get some real police …
