The Liberal Democrat Party in Watford have moved from bad to worse, and proven that their promises really aren’t worth anything at all. Not only did they break a promise made in 2007, but they have broken one made just two days before!
As I blogged yesterday, the Lib Dems published a quote in their leaflet purporting to be from the Watford Observer supporting their candidate, which was nothing of the sort. They had previously published precisely the same thing in 2007 and given “written assurance” that it would not happen …

There is a reason that the Liberal Democrats are known as “Fib Dems”. But it seems that the Lib Dems in Watford have graduated from the school of dodgy bar charts (they certainly don’t produce anya ccurate ones) and moved on the mis-attributing of comments.
They have distributed a constituency-wide election campaign leaflet saying:
Yet this is not a quote from the Watford Observer, but was actually nothing of the sort, but rather a quote taken from a story in May 2007, and clearly attributed to the Lib Dem Mayor of Watford, …

The Lib Dems really just don’t know what they’re doing at the moment. They’re flip-flopping over policies left, right and center. Especially over one particular policy – and its pretty much their flagship policy, too: Tuition fees
During the past few months, this policy has been removed, reinstated and now removed all over again:
Some multibillion-pound spending commitments we have promoted in the past – like new free childcare entitlements, a new citizen’s pension or free personal care – will no longer be firm commitments in our manifesto, but will be put …
Liberal Democrats, Money, Party Funding, Vote »
A few Lib Dem bloggers have worked out the the “cost effectiveness” of the three main parties 2005 general election campaigns, by dividing the money spent by the votes gained. The results being:
And so Lib Dems are claiming this to be some sort of moral and financial victory. But it really ignores the reason people vote for a particular party. However much the Lib Dems many choose to deny it, much of their support is simply because they are the third party, because of what they are not – as …

The Watford Observer have a story that Vince Cable is due to come to Watford to hold a Q&A session next week. But Watford Lib Dems don’t seem to be very interested in advertising this, if you take a look at their extremely poor quality website:

Absolutely no mention at all of sainted Vince’s appearance in the town. In fact, all the advertising there has been on this is one little story in the Watford Observer – which, to be honest, most people don’t read.
When David Cameron came to …

The Lib Dems have decided that they are going to keep their pledge to scrap tuition fees after all – even though Nick Clegg removed it as part of his “savage cuts” plan during the Lib Dem Party Conference. The reversal is because the Lib Dems Federal Policy Committee, which has the final say over what goes in the manifesto, decided to keep it in.
This is used by some as proof that the Lib Dems “are the only one of the three main parties that makes policy democratically” – and …

Dorothy Thornhill, Lib Dem Mayor of Watford, has decided to ban parents from some Watford playgrounds, and been completely slammed by it. Well, by everyone but Lib Dems anyway.
What is interesting is the reaction amongst the Lib Dem blogosphere and twitterati to this. They all automatically and without question fell into line behind her as soon as her so-called “clarification” was published – because Lib Dems, despite their rhetoric, are the most tribal of all political parties. What is most amusing is the attempts by Lib Dem Voice to smear …

Dorothy Thornhill, Mayor of Watford, has decided to ban parents from council playgrounds -two specific playgrounds, rather than all – due to fears over paedophilia, claiming that it was
a positive decision to safeguard children, by ensuring that all children left at a supervised play session are only left under the care of qualified CRB checked and legit staff.
This was her original defence of the ludicrous plan – backed up with the assertation that she was merely enforcing government policy. This was then branded “a joke” by Ofsted – as only …

Still makes more sense than a Lib Dem Prime Minister.
Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg »
If Nick Clegg really wanted to be Prime Minister, why on earth would he join the Liberal Democrats?
