I reviewed my nine for 2009 yesterday. Here’s my ten predictions/hopes for 2010:
The general election will be held in March.
The internet will play an important part in the general election campaign, with the blogosphere breaking stories about local candidates.
Richard Harrington wins Watford.
The electorate will show their disdain for expense-cheat MPs.
The Conservatives will get a relatively small majority (30-60)
The Lib Dems will fail to make any significant inroads on the political scene, with only a small rise in the number of MPs.
Gordon Brown has to be forced to resign as Labour …

I made nine wishes for 2009. Lets see how I did…
1. To gain my wood badge as a Scout leader
Nearly, but not quite. I’m four moduels away!
2. For the Conservatives to consistently poll above 45%
Just like in 2008, this didn’t materialise. But the polling lead is still good enough.
3. To double the number of visitors this blog each day
Nope.
4. For reliigous leaders to manage to not interfere in politics for an entire year
I think this happened! At least, I don’t recall any…

This time last year, I wrote a post entitled “eight wishes for 2008“. Let’s see how I did…
1. To get a permanent job.
I achieved this in April.
2. For the Conservatives to consistently poll above 45%.
Unfortunately a goal not quite reached. But they still polled consistently above 40% throughout the year. So I’ll give this one a half.
3. For Lib Dems to stop lying with their bar charts.
This was never going to happen.
4. To pass my driving test.
Yup, I achieved this one as well.
5. For the EU Constitution “Reform Treaty” to …

As Conference season is very nearly upon us, it’s time to start a new mwm based on what you would say if you had a platform at any party conference. [Idea nicked from Mike Ion.]
So here goes:
Conference,
I believe that we, the Conservative Party, are once more ready to take office. Let’s be frank – for a while, we had lost it, as can sometimes happen. But now, we have developed and moved on. We have taken a look at ourselves, done our navel gazing, and then we have taken a …

Matt Wardman has tagged me in a meme to name “the best £200k waste of public money you can think of” in response to Tom Harris MP’s post bemoaning the £200,000 spent on the Haltemprice and Howden by-election.
Despite the question being a bit of a contradicion in terms ["best waste"? Matt!] I’m going to do my best to continue it.
To start with, what Tom Harris is suggesting is that £200,000 of our money should not be spent on allowing us to cast our votes. [£200,000 is little to pay for …
