Nick Clegg
David Cameron, Gordon Brown, Nick Clegg, Politics, TV »
Finally the parties have done more than agree merely in principle to hold leader’s debates, but a real deal has been reached. This is an idea that first emerged back in July and was picked up by Sky in September with a campaign and petition – before stalling in political manoevurings between the parties a month later.
We will at last get our chance to see a proper debate between the three people vying to be Prime Minister (or king-maker in the case of Clegg). At a time when opinion of …

If Nick Clegg really wanted to be Prime Minister, why on earth would he join the Liberal Democrats?
Nick Clegg, Parliament, Politics »
Nick Clegg, the Lib Dem leader, is jumping on a bandwagon. This bandwagon is that of calling for the Speaker to resign.
A campaign to get Speaker Michael Martin the resign has been going since he sanctioned the search of Damian Green’s office without a warrant. Back in December, his position was extremely weak – and that was without any Lib Dem support at all. In fact, even Labour MPs were trying to work out a way to get him to resign. But no Lib Dems.
Clegg has obviously now seen an …
Barack Obama, Nick Clegg »
Yesterday, Barack Obama had meetings with both Gordon Brown and David Cameron – but not Nick Clegg. He (apparently) told the Daily Mail:
I am really annoyed. As it was not a state visit I understood I wouldn’t get to see him. But when I found out Obama was meeting the Queen and David Cameron I got on the phone to David Miliband to ask him what was going on.
Frankly, it doesn’t look good for Cameron to see him and for me not to.
Awww, poor diddums.
Maybe the reason Obama didn’t deign …

Just look at this picture of Nick Clegg from this BBC story:
It took me two glances to be sure that it was Clegg and not Cameron!
He really is turning in to Cameron-lite, copying his policies as well as apearance!
Education, Nick Clegg, The Economy, Work »
Nick Clegg is certainly stating the obvious when he saysthat
After having already suffered under Gordon Brown’s failure to sort out our education system, this generation now bears the heaviest brunt of his economic mismanagement.
Well duh.
Those who have just got qualifications are effectively unemployable in a recession. They have no work experience, no skills, nothing of any real use to employers who are suffering from the down-turn and considering getting making employees they already have redundant or cutting their working week.
Entering the world of work straight from school or university is …
Alcohol, Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg »
Nick Clegg is a party-pooper. And a control-freak one at that.
Nick Clegg, the Lib Dem leader said it should be made illegal for shops to sell alcohol at a loss.
Branding big supermarkets “irresponsible” for aggressively promoting alcohol sales, Mr Clegg told the Sheffield Alcohol Conference that many big stores are selling drinks at a price that does not even cover their own costs for duty and VAT. (The Telegraph)
I have one thing to say to that: fuck off you authoritarian cunt*.
It is up the alcoholmarkets supermarkets how they price the …
David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Politics »
Over the last week, Nick Clegg has thrown down a gauntlet of sorts to David Cameron. Proposing tax cuts – a distinctly Conservative idea – is definitely a challenge to Cameron, a blatant attempt to steal some of his support. But it’s not working, obvously.
However, what it does do is give Cameron an opportunity to, as Danny Finkelstein says, bring the Lib Dems to the right and prevent any thought of a Lib-Lab merger in the future.
But what can Cameron do to bring this around? More Lib Dem love-bombing is …
Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, Politics, Polls »
Nick Clegg has had a “go back to your constituencies and prepare for government” moment in his Cameron-lite – no notes, wandering around the stage – conference speech today when he said:
I can tell you where we’re headed – government. (Full speech here)
Yeah. Right.
Somehow, I just can’t see the Lib Dems forming the next government. Or any government, come to that. At any point.
Especially considering the latest polls, which put the parties on the following figures:
Conservatives: 52%
Labour: 24%
Lib Dems: 12%
Now that is a fantastic result for the Conservatives, and a …
Nick Clegg, Politics »
Nick Clegg is right that there is “insurrection in the air” and that the British people “are ready for change”. As Alice Miles explains:
An administration that everyone from backbenchers to truckers now dares to hold to ransom cannot manage a way through the next two years.
But they’ll keep on truckin’ trying.
The one thing Clegg is certainly wrong that the Lib Dems are the only party that can make change happen. If anything, the Lib Dems are the only party that couldn’t make it happen – because they will never get …
