David Cameron is coming to Watford for a Cameron Direct event. He will be opening the Watford Conservative’s brand new office in the town centre, followed by a question and answer event at a nearby venue. Even if you are unable to attend the event in person, you can watch it online here.

Cameron is coming to Watford to support Richard Harrington, the recently-selected parliamentary candidate, in his campaign to turn Watford back to a Conservative constituency.

I’ll be there, and I hope you will too!

Entrance to the event is free and open to all local residents, but tickets must be obtained in advance. To apply for tickets e-mail camerondirect@watfordconservatives.co.uk.

Attending members of the public are asked to be at the venue for 5.40pm for a prompt 6pm start.

Watford, where the G20 summit is due to be held in April, won’t live up to the expectations that Labour appear to have of it. ...

Watford, where the G20 summit is due to be held in April, won’t live up to the expectations that Labour appear to have of it. As James Forsyth says ay the Speccie blog:

The way Labour is talking it up, it if it doesn’t end with Obama chairing Gordon Brown on his shoulders through the streets London while proclaiming that Brown has saved the world it will be a bit of an anti-climax.

The summit will inevitably give Brown a bit of the boost in the short-term – a few photo-shoots with Obama should give him a few favourable headlines. But not much more than that. Nothing much concrete will come of the summit that will mean anything to us normal people.

Even more so, Watford will vote out its current Labour MP, Claire Ward, at the next election. That is definitive. Claire Ward will not be MP for Watford after the next general election. The only question is whether the Conservatives – with the excellent Richard Harrington – or the Lib Dem candidate win. And looking at the betting odds, the Conservatives are on to win:

Conservative Party: 1/1

Liberal Democrats: 6/4

Labour Party: 4

Watford won’t reward Brown in any way at all.

I have just returned from a selection meeting where the Watford Conservative Association selected its new Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, to replace Ian Oakley, who resigned from the post and the party after being arrested in connection with a hate campaign carried out against Watford Lib Dems – to which he later pled guilty and was sentenced.

But we have moved on from that and are looking forward to the future with our new PPC, Richard Harrington.

Richard was the best candidate from a very high-quality shortlist, the rest of whom will, I am sure, find the right constituency for them.

UPDATE: Richard has already launched his campaign website. Great start, considering he was only selected a matter of hours ago!
